In April 2020 I made the SA Personal Finance facebook group as a resource for those impacted by the pandemic. It caught spark and before I knew it people were joining in the hundreds, then the thousands. The desire for financial well-being is growing! My mission to make knowledge abundant for our wealth-building community of 23,000+ members.

Nomading in Colombia.

Renee

Hi! My name is Renee. I’m 26 and from the US. I have been nomading around the world while working remotely. I studied Economics at Rice University and first worked in finance; now I work in tech. My hobbies include salsa, poker, snowboarding, and running the SAPF facebook group of course!

Personal finance helped me:

  • 🎓Graduate university on a full scholarship

  • ✈️ Travel to 25 countries across 4 continents

  • 🔑 Save $100K at 23

  • 🏠 Buy a house @ 24

My calendar is open to book 1/1 with me or for your group of friends, family, coworkers, etc! 😍 I love a good strategy session to help you find the best course of action, based on your unique situation! You can also reach to me on instagram @yumimoney_ . All I ask is you consider sending a 🧧 to help support the website or use one of my referral links if shopping for a credit card, brokerage, or other financial products.

Purpose

So congrats, you’ve taken a step closer to a brighter financial future. No more paycheck-to-paycheck or worrying about how you’re going to provide for your loved ones. There’s something for everyone here, whether it’s saving and budgeting, stocks, crypto, real estate or finding a new side gig. Together– “yu” and “mi” 😝– we can build strong, secure financial futures. In addition, this is also travel blog, as I’ve gotten enough requests from friends for tips on how I travel so cheaply.

What’s with the name?

The last sentence explains it, but “yumi” is a play on words. How we’re taking on this journey together, “yu” and “mi”. But also, in Mandarin, “yumi” is the word for corn. Corn is a staple for much of the world because of its high yield and resiliency. Therefore, when I see our little mascot, I think of growth, and the ability to weather any storm.  Besides, money talk has been so boring. Expect more food references.

Some quick stats

A survey by Paychex found about half of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck. This goes up to 60% for 20-somethings. Smartasset found that median net worth at retirement age (55-64) to be $187,300. (Concerning.)

Reminder

Being money-savvy doesn’t deny you from living life to the fullest. It’s all about a balance and the journey itself is half the fun. Remember to look back every once in a while, don’t take things for granted, and give back when you can. When you do life with a mission, a purpose, and gratitude, you are already wealthy.
